V. The Nonprofit Sector Employs Many Women and Minorities

68% of full-time nonprofit employees are women (vs. 53% women overall in the New York City population). Black employees represent 35% of all employ-ees even though Blacks are only 25% of the population. They are almost as common as Whites, who represent 36% of all employees (close to their citywide presence of 35% of all residents). Hispanics are underrepresented at 17% (vs. 27% of residents in the city). Asian employment is comparable to their presence in the population as a whole (9% vs. 10% of residents). Black employees outnumber Whites in the health and human service sec-tors, where Hispanics are also very numerous, while Whites have larger representation in the arts, education, public benefit, and supporting organizations.
